In this modern world many of us find ourselves trying to get back to basics. We are working to move away from trends and instead, look for the classics, the things that last. When it comes to clothes, the classics never go out of style. We’re talking about things like a nice cut suit jacket and a good fitting skirt.
When it comes to furniture we are talking about well made furniture that holds up to the test of time. Usually the colors are easy on the eyes – not the bright tones that were popular in the 60s. And when it comes to decorating for Christmas the classics include things like Santa Claus, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Christmas Trees, Poinsettias, and other Christmas Flowers.
Although we have modernized our decorations with automation and various types of lights and electronics, the classics are the classics, and we truly can have beautiful Christmas decorations using only basic things. A beautiful Christmas tree is always thought of as a center piece of the Christmas decorations. It is usually the starting point and everything else is based on it.
No Christmas is complete without Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman, and we often use them as part of our decoration theme in wrapping paper as well as Christmas ornaments. It is not unusual to see a tabletop decorated with a beautiful Christmas Flower or candle centerpiece. It seems that we like to involve all the senses whenever possible, and the sense of smell is definitely not to be left out.
We satisfy our visual sense in many ways and we enjoy touching many things during the holiday season that are somewhat unique to this time of year. These things include pine needles and pine cones, as well as many other things that are natural and somewhat basic – the velvety touch of the Christmas tree skirt and the wonderful feel of our beautiful Christmas stockings that we look forward to having filled.
We enjoy various types of Christmas sounds, from bells jingling to songs that are saved for the holidays. And of course, our sense of taste is not left out as there are many wonderful foods that we traditionally eat during the holidays.
These classic things make the holidays what we dream of. For generation after generation we have held on to certain things that have made our Christmases special. The surprising part is that the most important aspects of the holidays have always been the basic features. It’s not the newest trends or the most expensive decorations that make Christmas special – it’s the classic things; things like being home with friends and family in a house decorated with beautiful holiday trimmings.
